International School of Economics and Management Holds 2023 Freshman Orientation Ceremony
On the afternoon of September 2nd, the International School of Economics and Management held the 2023 Freshman Orientation Ceremony at the University Student Activity Center, welcoming 86 new students to the college.
The Secretary of the Party General Branch of the International School of Economics and Management, Qingmei ZENG; the Deputy Secretary of the Party General Branch and Dean Kunpeng LI; Vice Deans Jing GAO and Weiming LI; the Head of the Department of Economics Yichen GAO; the Deputy Head of the Department of Financial Technology and Management Science Caiji PANG; Party Branch Committee Members, Office Director, and Undergraduate Freshman Class Supervisor Shi JIN; Undergraduate Freshman Class Supervisor Bin WU; Youth League Committee Secretary Minxuan BAI; Director of the Doctoral Program and Undergraduate Teaching Secretary Yihan HU; Part-time Counselor Jiashuo ZHAO; and all the 2023 freshmen and some parents of freshmen attended the ceremony.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Kunpeng LI, the Deputy Secretary of the Party General Branch and Dean of the College, warmly welcomed the arrival of the 2023 new students on behalf of the college and introduced the school's rich history of education and the strong alumni network. He expressed three expectations for the new students. First, he encouraged the students to gain true knowledge and develop real skills in their future studies, appreciate others, be humble, and continuously enhance their competitiveness. Second, he urged them to be diligent in their studies, uphold good morals, and strive for excellence. He hoped that students would have a positive and disciplined approach, establish a positive attitude on life, and become pillars of society. Third, he encouraged the students to actively participate in various activities and achieve comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. In conclusion, Kunpeng LI expressed his hope that the students would diligently pursue their goals, not waste their youth, make the most of their time, and live up to the expectations of the era.
The teacher representative, Caiji PANG, expressed the following hopes: For undergraduate freshmen, he hoped that they would quickly identify their goals and work diligently towards them, shaping a more approperiate version of themselves while maintaining their commitment to learning. For master's students and their mentors, he encouraged open communication. While excelling in research, he urged them to clarify their future direction early on, whether it be further academic pursuits or direct employment in the industry. For doctoral students, he wished for them to enhance their academic capabilities and seek personal hobbies, maintaining a balanced approach to life. He stated that all staff members would wholeheartedly support the growth and progress of the students.
Representing all the undergraduate students of the 2021 cohort in the International School of Economics and Management, Sihan HE delivered a speech where she shared the small moments of her university life. She believed that studying is a crucial aspect of university life, but in addition to grades, it's important to also develop one's interests, participate in social activities, and engage in volunteer service. Through these experiences, not only can students enhance their overall qualities and strengthen their sense of social responsibility, but they can also gain friendships and create precious memories.
The freshman representative, Zihan JIE, delivered a speech in which she recalled her experiences of hard work during high school and expressed her expectations and aspirations for her future life in the International School of Economics and Management. She hoped to utilize the vast and splendid platform of the college to showcase herself, continuously strive for excellence, and achieve comprehensive development. She stated that she would actively challenge herself, enhance cooperation, and take the older students as role models.
Vice Dean Weiming LI introduced the faculty team, graduate program development, research, and employment situation within the college. He introduced the college's strong research capabilities, rich academic environment, and outstanding teaching abilities by thoroughly reviewing research achievements. He also presented a comprehensive overview of the post-graduation destinations and further educational pursuits of the college's graduate students. He encouraged the newly enrolled graduate students to pursue their goals with determination, embrace challenges, and strive for academic success.
Vice Dean Jing GAO provided an overview of undergraduate education within the college, covering fundamental aspects such as curriculum development, teaching reforms, innovative achievements, and a diverse range of student development activities. She elaborated on the college's unique "Undergraduate Mentor Group" system and addressed concerns that parents have regarding internship opportunities, employment prospects, further education options, and international exchange programs. She expressed her hope that students would make numerous attempts during their undergraduate studies and fearlessly pursue their dreams.
The college has prepared a welcome gift for each new student, wishing them a quick adoption and the exuberance of youth in this new starting point, new phase, and new journey.
The Secretary of the Party General Branch of the International School of Economics and Management, Qingmei ZENG, painted a vibrant picture of life in the International School of Economics and Management for the new students. She emphasized three virtues that university students should possess: First, she hoped that students would consciously establish and practice socialist core values, drawing moral nourishment from traditional Chinese virtues to uphold their personal integrity and contribute to society. Second, she hoped the students to set ambitious goals, look towards the future with unwavering determination, and strive to contribute to the advancement of China, their nation, and the world. Third, she encouraged the students to be courageous in their endeavors, willing to take on responsibilities, and enthusiastic about hard work. She urged them to use their youth to add the most vibrant colors to their era, to embrace the sense of responsibility and mission that comes with living in prosperous times, and to inject their ideals into the progress of society, becoming pioneers of the new era.
In the interactive session, four undergraduate freshmen and one doctoral student were fortunate to receive college-branded figurines and library cards. The students, along with their parents, class advisors, and student mentors, looked forward to their future academic journey together.
At the end of the ceremony, Meihui WANG expressed her hope that the students could maintain strong beliefs and cherish the present moment. She encouraged them to set ambitious goals when determining their life's direction, to have the aspirations of an eagle, and to seize the opportunity to strive for success. She wished the students to welcome their future academic journey with the fullest of enthusiasm.
